Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir Represents Iceland In The HM in Kazan, RUS 31.07.2015
On Sunday, 2nd of August, the HM in swimming will begin in Kazan, Russia. From SH Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir is a part of the 5 swimmer team from Iceland.
Hrafnhildur will race in 200m fjórsund, 50, 100 and 200m bringusund and in the 4x100m fjórsund relay.

Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir is the first and until now only Icelandic woman, who ever reached a semi-final in a FINA World Championship, 2013 in Barcelona in 50 and 200m bringusund.
To repeat this performance she needs to race successfully in the morning heats:
2. Ágúst, 200m fjórsund (place 24 in the entry list)
3. Ágúst, 100m bringusund (place 28 in the entry list)
6. Ágúst, 200m bringusund (place 17)
8. Ágúst, 50m bringusund (place 19)
9. Ágúst, 4x100m fjórsund

The 16 fastest swimmers will proceed to the semi-finals, the 8 fastest will reach into the final. Two Icelandic swimmers have reached a final of a World Championship yet: Örn Arnason, who even won silver in 100m baksund and bronze in 200m, 2001 in Fukuoka; and Eðvarð Þór Eðvarðsson 1986 in Madrid (in the old system with direct A- and B-finals).

The further swimmers of the Icelandic team are Eygló Ósk Gústafsdóttir (Ægir), who has the best chances of a semi-final with her 200m baksund (12th place in the entry list), and Anton Sveinn McKee (Ægir) in 200m bringusund (15th place). Jóhanna Gerða Gústafsdóttir (Ægir) and Bryndís Rún Hansen (Óðinn) complete the small team, and they are as well important parts of the 4x100m fjórsund relay-team.

The team is led by national coach Jacky Pellerin, and sjúkraþjálfari Unnur Sædís, who reports through facebook regulary about the team. SSÍ head Hörður J. Oddfríðarson represented Iceland on the FINA congress, which is held always during the World Championships.
